Virtual Server-to-Host Affinity (Erl, Naserpour)
How can a virtual server be guaranteed to be hosted by a specific hypervisor?

Problem
A virtual server needs to be hosted on a particular host.
Solution
Affinity rules are used to ensure that the desired virtual server or workload is hosted on the target host.
Application
Affinity rules are applied and configured via the application of this pattern, and are dedicated and controlled by the VIM server.
Mechanisms
Hypervisor, Live VM Migration, Virtual Infrastructure Manager
Compound Patterns
Burst In, Burst Out to Private Cloud, Burst Out to Public Cloud, Cloud Authentication, Cloud Balancing, Elastic Environment, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Isolated Trust Boundary, Multitenant Environment, Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Private Cloud, Public Cloud, Resilient Environment, Resource Workload Management, Secure Burst Out to Private Cloud/Public Cloud, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)

The steps involved in applying the Virtual Server-to-Host Affinity pattern are illustrated (Part I).

The steps involved in applying this pattern are illustrated (Part II).

The workload is balanced between the hypervisors. Virtual Server A does not have any contact with any hypervisors other than Hypervisors A and B (Part III).
This pattern is covered in CCP Module 17: Advanced Cloud Virtualization.
